Valerie's Gallery Features Two Ipswich Artists As Part of ArtWalk on May 2nd

Valerie's Gallery will host a special event where customers can meet two talented artists from Ipswich, MA. Colleen Kidder, an artist and jewelry designer, and Anke Ueckert-LaPlante, jewelry designer, will be on hand to discuss their craft  from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday , May 2nd. The event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.

Anke Ueckert-LaPlante is a jewelry designer who has always loved to create things, whether it be gardening, clothing, craft, or sterling silver jewelry. Born in Germany, she moved to the U.S. in the early 1990s. She  came out with my own line of jewelry that is inspired by nature and being close to the seashore. "The shape of a flower's petal or the wings of a dragonfly mirrored in sterling silver speak to me of nature and the beauty of our Earth," Uekert-LaPlant explained.

Colleen Kidder is a an artist interested in many forms, such as textile and jewelry design. During ArtWalk, Valerie's Gallery will feature her oil paintings and beaded jewelry. "I am an Impressionist painter who ponders patterns. Color, line, and design energize me, and creativity is what feeds my soul," Kidder said.

Kidder studied painting and drawing throughout the 1970's in New York and Vermont. From 1976 to 1986 Colleen lived in Boston, where she studied textile and jewelry design, eventually starting her own business wholesaling products. After moving to Ipswich in 1992, she opened a shop called "Eliza Gray's Goods," where she sold unique home furnishings as well as her own art work until 2003. Landscapes that inspire her art include Monhegan Island in Maine, the Tuscany of Italy, the fields, farm life and seascapes near her home.

ArtWalk runs from 12-7 p.m. on Saturday and 12-5 p.m. on Sunday. A free brochure/map of all venues is available at participating galleries, the Newburyport Chamber of Commerce, the passageway between State State and Inn Street and at ArtWalk Partners' locations.
